The Ghosts Of Christmas Past, Present and Future return in this Christmas Carol for our time. Pumpletown was once a prosperous industrial town, but its factories closed down causing high unemployment. When a large number of Muslim immigrants came to live in the town, the already angry locals clashed with their new neighbours. The town is now plagued with conflict between its diverse people. The rich Blithe brothers both demand their ancestral home back from their older sister’s eccentric widow Clara Dew who they detest, the ‘local’ Proudo gang and its leader Brad Pagger are at constant odds with all the Muslims especially the younger men led by the strong-willed Tariq, and the youth grow up in Pumpletown believing that their side in the conflict is just. The Reverend Ernest Bungleberry witnesses the damage this conflict is spreading in the town, negatively affecting his congregation, his niece Jilly and her friend Tyler. He decides to hold a Christmas Stars contest, in which the people who most represent Christian values in their actions this festive season will become Pumpletown’s Christmas Stars and be awarded Golden Stars. However, the weak-willed Bungleberry is bullied by both Blithe brothers and lacks the courage to lead the change he desires in Pumpletown. One man who bravely strives to spread goodness is Lebleb, a devout Muslim immigrant from Turkey. Lebleb, who happily earns a small wage serving tables in his brother-in-law’s café and selling chickpeas and purple carrot juice from his cart in his spare time, is kind to everyone he meets. In return for his kindness, he is ridiculed by many for being different. Step in The Ghosts Of Christmas Past, Present and Future and their mission to promote tolerance, inclusion and understanding. Can they guide the people of Pumpletown into the light? Can they save a whole town? And who will they choose to haunt? Who will be this years’ Christmas Stars?
